Aidan sports his "Nikes" and I try to decide what diapers to buy...

Aidan loves his bouncy chair!

Hmmm, I am so torn on what diapers to buy. I try to be as environmentally conscious about my decisions in life as I can be, and diapers are no exception. I originally fully intended on cloth diapering our son. Well that went out the window before he was even born when the diaper laundering service informed me they do not service the town where we live...too far. Hmm, OK, loads and loads of laundry everyday, not for me. Scraping poo into the toilet when I have a screaming infant on the changing table, again, not for me. Sorry mother earth.

So the next best thing I thought would be to use the Seventh Generation diapers, they are Chlorine-Free Diapers and the absorbent polymer is non-toxic and non-irritating to baby’s skin. They will still end up in a landfill somewhere but I thought at least they are not made with any chemicals that could irritate Aidan. A HUGE added bonus is we get them for free or at a discount since we have quite a few friends who work at the Burlington, VT based company. The problem with these diapers is they SUCK. I literally cannot think of a better word to describe how bad they are, sorry. They are not as soft as the Pampers or Huggies we were given to try at the hospital and quite frankly they leak. I mean they LEAK urine all over his clothes, all over his crib sheets. I thought maybe it was just him, being so hydrated that he had so much urine no diaper could handle it, but after doing my own very "scientific" analysis...it is just the bad diaper. Then, after the explosive poop that came out the sides and up his back...well that just sealed the deal right there;)

So, this morning I am online about order a case of Pampers and I still feel guilty about it. Part of me wants to just give the cloth ones a try, but luckily I got 5 hours of precious sleep last night and the rational side of my brain is kicking in and saying "DON'T be an idiot, you barely have time to take a quick shower, do you seriously think you will have time to stay on top of the laundry necessary for cloth diapering?" Thank you rational Angela. OK, thanks for reading my little rant, I just convinced myself I am not a bad person, and now I'm off to order some Pampers.

Oh brother, I may have to go back to work just to save myself from a life of blogging about diapers;) An update will be sure to follow once these diapers arrived, I know you can barely stand the suspense! ha ha
