We had another great weekend! We ventured out Thursday night to kickball and Aidan made his debut and was a perfect angel. He slept the entire time in the sling which Kevin and I took turns wearing. Check out the beautiful sunset on Lake Champlain
Those aren't my beers...ok well not both of them!
We got to see some friends, Kevin's team won his game and the weather was gorgeous. It was a great night...until it was time to go to bed! Thursday evening began two nights of no sleep for Kevin and I. All of a sudden our wonderful baby who was sleeping so well started to have reflux, he was fussy and crying and would not sleep for more than 20 minutes at a time. By 4 a.m. we had both tried everything and were exhausted and defeated. Kevin was finally about to rock him to sleep and we all slept for a few hours.Thank goodness for Kevin's half-day Fridays. He arrived home around 1:30 to me having a total meltdown. I was completely exhausted, hungry and running on empty and Aidan had been awake and fussy all morning. Kevin took over and was immediately soaked with urine upon changing Aidan's diaper so we gave him a bath and he eventually calmed down and slept all afternoon while we lazed around and watched the Olympics.
Friday's post bath hang

Isn't that tiny bath robe adorable? He really liked it so we let him sleep in it all afternoon!

Friday night consisted of ordering a pizza and hoping for a better nights sleep. The pizza was good. The sleep...not so much. Aidan was up again for most of the night. He would fall asleep in our arms but the second you lay him down he would wake up crying. It was a long night and he finally fell asleep shortly before the sun came up.Saturday morning we had brunch plans with some friends of ours who live nearby and have a 12 week old son, so we headed to meet them bleary eyed, but knowing they would understand and we could all commiserate. It was good to hear that it gets better and easier, I just never get tired of hearing that!
The weather was absolutely beautiful Saturday and we had a big day planned. After our breakfast we went for a stroll and then headed home to rest before going to our friend's parents annual Lobster Bake!
Kevin's friend Justin has really fun parents who live on Lake Champlain in Grand Isle, VT which is about an hour north of us and only 25 miles from Canada.
Every year they have a huge party and bake Lobsters in a big pit in the ground.

They put out an amazing spread with tons of seafood and lots of beer and wine and a great group of people. Kevin went last year but I was in Atlanta so I missed the fun. We headed up there about 4 p.m. and the drive was so relaxing. It truly is one of Vermont's best kept secrets and the views were magnificent. We arrived and on cue Aidan woke up and was hungry! I said hellos and then I headed to the dock overlooking the lake and sat in a big Adirondack chair to feed Aidan, it was the most relaxed I'd been in ages!

Breastfeeding while standing and posing for a picture!
Lots of their friends arrived by boat
Our friends and the "kids" zone...
The sun set slowly and was really breathtaking

What a little snuggler! He was such a great baby all night.
The moon over Mount Mansfield was stunning
We had a great night!
We got home and were exhausted! Facing another sleepless night was not enticing so we decided to try something else. At night he has been spitting up so much, fussing when he eats, arching his back, crying and pumping his legs when he lies flat and after consulting every book we have, we think he has a little reflux. All the books say that babies with reflux need to be propped up at an angle when they sleep and since the recommended foam wedge is not something we own , we decided to try letting him sleep in his car seat.
IT WORKED!!! He slept like a dream for 5 1/2 hours. At first we felt guilty but when he woke up after 5.5 hours and was happy and ready to feed, I was ecstatic. I don't think I have had that much sleep since before he was born. I plan to call the Dr. today just to tell him about the reflux and see what he says and to make sure that letting him sleep in his car seat is not some terrible thing I'm doing, but I'm sure he'll say it's fine and hopefully he may have some solutions so Aidan doesn't have to suffer with the reflux. As my friend Mary so wisely said "It's fine if he sleeps in his car seat now, it will pass, don't worry he won't go to college still sleeping in his car seat!"
So Sunday was a mellow end to the weekend and we literally did nothing all day. A little housework, hanging out with Aidan, a walk around town, a quick trip to the grocery store, but overall very uneventful. Kevin made a lovely dinner with some fresh veggies from the garden
and we had another great night of sleep with Aidan in his car seat!!! I'm excited about this week because Kevin has taken some vacation days to just hang out so he's off Wednesday-Monday. We'll keep you posted on all our adventures, have a great week.
