I love you and I hope you had a lovely day! (and no, I am not taking this photo down, it's too good!)Wow, Kevin and I had such a great weekend but I am exhausted today. I need another weekend now just to recover from this weekend! Friday night we got home early and since it was still beautiful outside, Kevin decided to fire up his "tractor" (it's a lawnmower folks, but we let him pretend) and cut some grass, while I did some weeding.
He named this beast Amarilla and sometimes I get jealous of how much time he spends riding around drinking beers and cutting grass. There's been a few times where I've hidden the keys but somehow he always finds them!
The plus side of Kevin's affair with his lawn mower is that we always have the best looking grass in the village! Good job honey.Saturday, Kevin and I woke up super early which seems to be a normal routine for us now. I guess we are prepping for the days with the baby when we have no choice but to get up. We took advantage of the early start and got to work on my endless to-do list. Kevin says I am going through a severe period of "nesting mania" and I am being bossy and a little crazy. I wish I could say he is exaggerating but it's true, I am kind of freaking out! I feel like I have so many things I want to get finished before the baby comes. I know people are right when they say this baby won't care if the gardens are weeded, the paint is touched up, and the curtains are hung, but I WILL and I know myself pretty well and even though I'll be overjoyed, exhausted and probably overwhelmed, it will still bother me if I leave things undone. SO...hence my semi-uncontrollable urges to get up at 6 a.m. and hang curtains. Kevin, bless his heart, did everything I asked but was less than amused and begged to go outside and ride his "tractor" after a morning of checking off things on the dreaded list. He has been amazing throughout this whole pregnancy and is so patient with me, I am very lucky!
Saturday afternoon we went to test drive cars. Our lease is almost up on our gas guzzling Jeep and since we'll never lease again, we've decided to buy a car that will be good for the "family mobile" for a few years. We need a SUV or something roomy for the big dog, the baby and all the gear that comes with having both. Kevin loves Mini-Vans but I said no way, not until I'm 40 or have more than 2 kids! I DO NOT want a mini-van at age 31, I may as well just give up and wear "mom jeans" if that's the case. We've looked at a lot of cars, and we're leaning towards the Saturn Vue.
It's safe, affordable for a SUV, and it looks pretty. We liked the way it drove, and it has the room we need for baby, dog and stroller(s) as well as all our snowboarding gear in the winter. We really want the new Hybrid, but right now it's still so expensive that the savings on gas and the warm fuzzy feeling that we're doing something better for the earth isn't worth the cost for us right now.
Another great feature about this car is the gas mileage. Yes, it's a SUV but it does get good gas mileage for its size and it is SO much better than the tanker we're driving now. The Jeep was a great winter, mountain car for us, but with the price of gas sky rocketing it is too expensive to drive and we have to say goodbye! After our fun afternoon of test driving cars all over Burlington, we went to our friends John & Lindsay's house for a BBQ.
Their daughter Avery was celebrating her 2nd Birthday. She seemed to be having a fun party and it was so cute when she would yell "Birthday!"
We had a great time but after two hours of lots of kids everywhere, I was ready to go home to my quiet house, while it is still quiet! Watching those kids expend their seemingly limitless energy made me more exhausted than I've been in a while and I actually fell asleep on the ride home!Yesterday was Mother's Day and I got to celebrate! Sure Baby Duggan is not born yet, but I already feel like a mom and Kevin totally outdid himself and gave me the most beautiful present
Kevin knew I had been eyeing this watch for a long time, and I am so excited! Thank you honey for a special Mother's day and my beautiful watch. He is going to get it engraved for me so I don't have it on yet, but I can't wait to wear it. I have never been a watch person because quite frankly I have never been on time, or even worried about being on time. It is one of the few major differences between Kevin and I! He is a stickler for being prompt and I am notorious for taking my sweet time and being late to everything. Now that I'm about to be a mom I think I'm long overdue for a watch and practicing promptness! Plus it will help me keep track of feedings and basically my life when my sleep schedule gets turned upside down and I don't even know what day it is, at least I'll have the time!My wonderful Mother's Day continued with an amazing breakfast at a local B&B, followed by a trip to our local organic nursery to pick up some early season vegetables for planting. We worked in the garden all day and got so much done!
We tried to keep Lily from eating grass by giving her a bone instead, but she loves grass! I have never seen a dog eat as much grass as she does, it's disgusting!

About 3 p.m. I hit a wall and just could not do any more gardening. Kevin pulled out our hammock from the barn and I took a lovely nap outside while he finished prepping the vegetable garden and made rows with the rototiller. When I woke up, we were ready to plant and we got our Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts, Peas, Romaine and Red Leaf Lettuces in the ground!

It was a really great day! We both love to be outside and working in the garden planting vegetables and watching them grow is so satisfying. After the chance of frost has passed, probably by the weekend of 5/23, we will plant the rest of the veggies: tomatoes, zucchinis, squash, peppers, eggplant, beans, carrots, maybe potatoes if we have room, and of course tons of herbs! We were thinking about trying strawberries this year because they grow so well in the local soil, but we don't want to overextend ourselves and let anything go to waste so I think we will stick with what we know for now. The perfect Mother's day outside ended with Kevin's first fire of the year in his pit
Kevin loves having fires almost as much as he loves riding Amarilla! It's a summer time tradition and this year instead of enjoying a bottle of wine next to the fire, I think I'll bust out the smores instead. Now that our perfect weekend has ended, we have a super busy week ahead! Our kitchen counter tops are getting installed tomorrow, we have a pediatrician consultation coming up Wednesday, we're touring a day care on Thursday and we have another child birth class to look forward to this week. Can you believe I am 31 weeks pregnant, with 62 days to go!!! I'll leave you with some shots Kevin took of my humongous belly, enjoy...
Bump Watch!
Kevin took some pics of my growing belly yesterday and the sun must have blinded my judgement because I even let him get a naked belly shot
Ha ha, not a super close up though! And here it is that evening covered up which is how I like it...
