Pre-Natal yoga and other exciting discoveries...

It's Thursday and I'm taking my first pre-natal yoga class tonight and I'm kind of excited. I've never really been a huge fan of yoga, probably due to the fact that I'm about as flexible as a block of concrete. Also, I have a hard time zoning out. For example in class, when you're supposed to clear your mind and find that "zen" space, I usually find myself planning the rest of my week, thinking about dinner, prioritizing my tivo'd programs and wondering what I'm going to wear to work the next day. I know...deep thoughts. However I've been persuaded to try pre-natal yoga by virtually every woman at my company whose ever had a baby and they all rave about how great it made them feel. So I thought why not, I'll give it a go. Finding a place to take classes has been interesting. Vermont may be one of only 3 states without a Target, and you couldn't find a decent mall in this state to save your life, but when it comes to health and spiritual wellness, you'll hit the mother load here. Wellness studios are to Vermont what strip malls are to Jersey...everywhere!

I've been surprised by the variety of classes offered. Did you know you can take "Yoga for the serious Golfer?" And don't despair if you're over 40 because there's a class for you too. Even really fat people can take yoga here...although the class has a super PC name, "Yoga for the Bigger Bodies." Hmmm, I wonder how popular that class is. When I began to read about pre-natal classes I thought I had found the perfect place until I stumbled upon this on their website...

That photo scares me! Are we sure that baby's not going to accidentally pop out here? You can't tell me that's comfortable either, no thank you. So this isn't the place for me, but after a few phone calls and a little more research I found the perfect place. Inflexible people are welcome and instead of contortionism, this place is into gentle, soothing stretching and relaxation. Sign me up! Even their photos are less scary:

The class is after work today so I'll have a review tomorrow. Kevin's going to pass the hour and a half at his friend's house playing Guitar Hero :)

After the class we're going out tonight to support a colleague of Kevin's who is having an opening to showcase her photography. I've already been told by Kevin "you are not allowed to buy ANYTHING!" but I'm still looking forward to seeing her work. I'm hoping Kevin will learn how to post to the blog this week so he can put his updates here!

No exciting baby news to report this week, I haven't felt any kicks yet although I have been having a lot of pain on the left side of my belly. All the books say it's my ligaments stretching and making way for my growing uterus. Although it hurts, it really is fascinating how the body adapts and makes room for this baby. I should start feeling the baby move pretty soon and I'll be sure to let you know!
